Taiwan’s MediaTek, the leader of the mobile chip world, started to use the Kompanio nomenclature by going through a restructuring on the portable device side. The Kompanio 1380 chipset, which was first displayed at CES 2022, was officially introduced this week.

What are the Kompanio 1380 features?

We see 4 Cortex-A78 and 4 Cortex-A55 cores in the Kompanio 1380 chipset designed for Chromebook models. The Mali-G57 graphics unit has five clusters. While efficiency is ensured with the 6nm process, frequencies up to the 3GHz limit can be reached. With MediaTek APU 3.0, 4 TOPS artificial intelligence performance is achieved.

Modern uses such as 4K60 HDR display, AV1 hardware encryption, special audio signal processor that supports low power wake-up, 7.1 surround sound support, LPDDR4x RAM, support for global positioning networks, Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.0 support are offered.

The Kompanio 1380 chipset first appeared in the Asus Chromebook Spin 513. It will seek a stake in more Chromebook models in the coming months against rivals such as Qualcomm and Intel.
