Counterpoint research firm has published the results of its global processor market research for smartphones running Android operating system.
Chipset sales for cellular devices are estimated to increase by 3.6% in 2021 compared to 2020. The industry is split between five leading suppliers.
MediaTek introduced Dimensity 8000, 8100 and 1300 chipsets
Market leader MediaTek with 46% share. In other words, this company controls almost half of the processor market. It has been stated that MediaTek has shown significant growth in the sub-$300 smartphone category last year thanks to its Dimensity 700/800 series processors.
Ranking second in the ranking of leading suppliers, Qualcomm has a 35% share. The company dominates the $300-499 device segment with 65%.
Demand for Samsung’s products decreased
South Korean Samsung is among the top five suppliers, but demand for the company’s products has decreased. Thus, the company’s share in the $100-299 segment fell from 17% to 7% during the year.
Unisoc grew in the sub-$200 category with a 26% share in the up to $99 segment.
Finally, it is noted that HiSilicon has captured 16% in the smartphone category of $500 and above.
