The tension between China and Taiwan is closely related to the chip world apart from world politics. The presence of TSMC, the industry’s largest foundry in Taiwan, is unsettling and so important that the US authorities had come up with the idea of bombing the facilities if necessary.

Escape from Taiwan

MediaTek, Taiwan’s top chip designer, stated that it wants some key chip customers to shift production out of Taiwan to avoid risk. In this respect, MediaTek needs to find different foundries producing the same quality.

MediaTek partners with TSMC for advanced production processes. More mature processes are produced by GlobalFoundries. However, it is difficult to find a 4nm process as efficient as TSMC. Samsung and Intel also make significant investments, but they are not as efficient as TSMC.

On the other hand, MediaTek mainly supplies to Chinese manufacturers. In this respect, it would not be wrong to say that the demand came from the Chinese, and there is also the possibility that there is a political situation in the middle. Let’s see how MediaTek will find a solution to this?
