What does this Eternals tell?
The story that Eternals tells us is a very comprehensive and broad story compared to other Marvel movies. I have to say that it is a story that comic book lovers are much more familiar with. We are hearing and learning about this story for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the movie, Celestiels, the space gods who dominate the universe, create two races as a result of various experiments on humans. One of them is the Deviants, an ugly or ugly, horribly aggressive race that is on the bad side in the movie. Another is the Eternals, who are waging a race war with the Deviants and possessing different powers, with the task of purging them. After thousands of years on planet Earth, the Deviant race re-emerges and poses a great threat, bringing the Eternals back to the planet on a great mission, protecting humanity from the Deviant race for centuries and enabling them to thrive.
While the Eternals encounter the Deviants in this process, they also begin to question their creators, Celestiels, and their existence and plans, and events develop. The story of the movie is so comprehensive and extensive that it’s hard to even describe it without spoilers, but that’s the story in a nutshell.
So is the story good enough?
The story of Marvel’s Eternals, in my opinion, is too comprehensive and inadequate compared to other Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Yes, the story told in Eternals is definitely of great importance to the universe, but there is a story that can raise serious question marks in the minds of the audience in terms of story and fiction and is very open to questioning. The story has now expanded to the level of galaxies, let alone earth, let alone planets, and before us are the Celestiels, the Space Gods who have the power to rule everything as a new being.
Eternals, which has a fairly large story with its strange powers and scope, unfortunately does not have a very successful story and story setup. Yes, we go back and forth between the past and the present throughout the film, but as a viewer, you constantly feel the need to question. To put it simply, while these events were in the past, the Avengers etc. It is a bit disturbing that he is not aware of these events and that we are unaware of such a great war and plan in the universe. It’s as if these events take place in two different universes, but Marvel is trying to make us believe that these events take place in the same universe as the other movies. At some points, the story is tried to be transferred from scratch to the audience as a bombardment, and sometimes it is left open with scenes where you will say, “Why did this happen now?” As a viewer, you are asked to eat the story by force, or you may find out the meaninglessness and open-ended points by questioning and questioning, and you may lose your taste. I can say that there is a comprehensive story in the air of a comic book. This is my overall interpretation of the story.
Let’s come to our large or large team: Here are the Eternals
We said that the Eternals movie has a pretty big cast. There are 10 Eternals in total in the movie. I won’t name them here because they are too many. You’ll have a lot of fun during the movie anyway. It will be better if you get to know the characters one by one and try to understand them. They all have different features and abilities. At this point, I would like to express my positive opinion immediately. With so many characters, you may be worried, but at least I liked the characters in terms of their characteristics. Throughout the movie, we witness many dialogues between the characters and the fact that they are all different from each other makes it really enjoyable to watch. Someone jokes a lot, someone is more serious and directing than others, and someone is very emotionally attached to the team. This style is a nice choice to have its own characteristics.
Let’s get to the negative side. Although the characters are diverse, you can’t connect to almost any of them as a viewer because they are so many. Since we met all of them from scratch and tried to get to know them better in the process, it is almost impossible to connect with even a single character. All of them seem to have a purpose in life, but they cannot be filled completely or they seem to have disappeared in the big story, which is quite comprehensive. Although the characters give us fun moments with their visual shows and jokes, it is very difficult to connect with them. You can even question why some characters are there and what kind of place they have in the story. A character may not be the one you see at first. With their indecision in their development and purpose, they can remain a small and insignificant detail in the story. Finally, I think Angelina Jolie suits the character of “Thena” very well and fits her costume very well. Let me not pass without mentioning this 🙂
Is the action dose too much or too little?
When we look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the thing that catches our eye the most is the dose of action. The action scenes in Marvel movies are quite a lot and they are pretty cool. Eternals, on the other hand, has action scenes, although not excessive. Although it contains enough action, I will not say the same in terms of the fullness of the action. Battles with Deviants look very good aesthetically.
Especially when all the characters of the team make a combo attack using their own characteristics, etc. it looks pretty cool but the action sequences felt like they could have been even bigger. It was as if the Deviants could be even more powerful and larger creatures. I expected them to cause much bigger trouble for our team. We could see much more epic scenes from a movie with so many characters together.
Too much comedy?
Let’s get to the comedy dose. Yes, comedy elements are definitely included in Marvel movies, but there is a certain dose of it. When necessary, the series is very serious, and when necessary, pauses and comedy elements are introduced. In Eternals, these issues are intertwined. You don’t know when things get serious and when comedy comes in. When suddenly things are going to get serious, someone is making a joke and the seriousness is broken. However, let’s not be fair, there are no places that make you smile. I can say that I especially like the funny references to the characters in the DC universe and the jokes between the characters. I conclude this section by saying that the level of seriousness is a bit stale.
Is it a long movie, but should it be this long?
Marvel’s Eternals is a very long Marvel movie with a length of 2 hours and 37 minutes. I’m on the side that thinks this length has been extended a bit. Despite being so long, the film ends openly and unfortunately you can’t get the feeling of ending satisfaction. For example, there are scenes from the past, but these scenes do not help us to underline the characters.
Yes, it may be nice to see places like Babylon, Mesopotamia, Hiroshima, but I wish every scene in the movie was more important than the other and it was worth it to be long. The story tries to drag the audience for 2 and a half hours by showing a past and present while trying to tell the main big story, but it seems like it would have happened even without some scenes.
How many After Credits are there and are they nice?
There are 2 After Credits scenes in Marvel’s Eternals movie. One of them is displayed after the first credits screen and the other after the last credits section. I can say that I like the After Credits scenes. In particular, both After Credits scenes inform and surprise the audience about the characters that will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the story told in this movie and what is shown in the after credits, it is possible to foresee that the universe is getting bigger and there are big stories ahead. Don’t miss these scenes.
So, is it worth watching in the cinema?
We have come to the most critical point to be mentioned when interpreting a movie. The issue of watching in the cinema is very critical when interpreting a movie because if a movie is not worth watching in the cinema, its value is directly reduced by half or it is seriously affected. First of all, I can say that I came across the phenomenon of dimming in cinemas. Even though I watched 2D, some scenes had serious brightness problems. I can say that if you haven’t been to the cinema for a long time and as a close follower of the Marvel universe, if you want to learn what is going on in the universe and what will happen, it is possible to have an average cinema experience. The film is not far below the average, but unfortunately it cannot go above it, I can say that it is a film that is at the limit.
