The famous actress Chaswick Boseman, who played the main character T’Challa in the Black Panther movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, died in 2020 after losing to cancer, which he had been fighting for a while, in secret, and mourned his fans. After Boseman’s unexpected death, the fate of the beloved character T’Challa remained unclear for a while.
We’ve seen a change of cast who previously played Bruce ‘Hulk’ Banner and Tony Stark’s best friend Rhodey – specifically Bruce Banner; He was played by three different people, Eric Bana, Edward Norton, and eventually Mark Ruffalo. However, these were all changes due to some issues with the players; On the contrary, Boseman’s T’Challa was very popular. Marvel Vice President of Development Nate Moore put an end to the Black Panther discussion during a broadcast he attended.
T’Challa may return one day
Joining the Ringerverse, Moore said that they talked to Black Phanter director Ryan Coogler about this issue and that they did not plan to work with another actor for the T’Challa character in the sequels, “You won’t see T’Challa in the MCU 616 universe. ‘ he conveyed. But considering the importance of the Black Panther character to Marvel and the black community, that doesn’t mean we’ll never see T’Challa again. As some of you may know, the 616 universe is referred to as the ‘main’ universe in the Marvel universe; but there are other universes as well. The multiverse created in the Loki series has the potential to contain an infinite number of different Black Panthers. It even similarly features an alternative T’Challa in Marvel’s What If. . . ? We’ve seen it in the TV series. Although it was Boseman who voiced T’Challa, the characters were quite different in terms of script. For this reason, we may encounter a new T’Challa in other universes in the future, even if not in universe 616.
However, this does not seem to happen for a long time. The concept of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever seems to be outlined at this point, and it’s clear that no T’Challa changes will be made here either. In the sequel, it is thought to focus on Letitia Wright’s character Shuri, Winston Duke’s M’Baku or Lupita Nyong’s Nakia.
So, it may be possible, thanks to the multiverse, that a different T’Challa, played by a different actor, will one day return. We witnessed a similar situation in the death of Heath Ledger, who gave life to the Joker in Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, when Joker, a very important character for the DC universe, was able to return to the screens with Jared Leto 8 years after this event. Long story short, even if we do get to watch T’Challa again one day, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for that.
