It is a known fact that with the developing technology, the space exploration of humanity has moved to a very advanced level, and traveling to different planets is no longer a dream. So much so that experts plan to carry out manned missions to the Moon and then to Mars in the coming years. In the future, it is aimed to ensure that people can be found here for a long time.
The possibility that the space colonies we see in science fiction works are real, caused a structure to be built in the city of Bristol in the United Kingdom. Named the ‘House of Mars’, this structure was designed to show us what our future on the Red Planet might look like.
Solar-powered, the structure is designed to withstand environmental challenges on Mars
This project named ‘Martian House’, which we can translate into Turkish as ‘Mars House’; architect Hugh Broughton, London-based design firm Pearce+ was designed in collaboration with scientists, engineers and the public from the University of Bristol. The structure aims to give us an idea of what our future on Mars might be like. It is also stated that the project aims to encourage people to think more creatively about how we can lead a more sustainable life on Earth.
The 53 square meter two-storey building gets its power from solar energy. It is also stated that the Mars House, which is stated to be lightweight, is designed to withstand environmental challenges that may be encountered on Mars, such as -63°C temperatures and cosmic radiation. It is also among the news that the lower floor of the building will be open to the public between 31 August and 16 October.
It is stated that the upper floor of the building is made of pressurized inflatable gold-plated foil, while the main idea is to fill the walls with Martian soil. However, it is stated that this prototype is filled with air so that it can be used again. In addition, it should be noted that a hydroponic room surrounded by plants and a kitchen are located at the top.
As for the bottom part, this part is designed to be built underground. In addition, the illustrations of the artist Andy Council and details about the project are featured on the bottom of the prototype. In addition, downstairs, there is a control room with all the systems that power the structure, a twin room, a shower and a low-water toilet.
Robert Myhill, a planetary scientist at the University of Bristol, emphasizes that this structure is remarkable and states that it offers us an inspiring vision for how we can meet the challenges on the planet. Myhill also points out that the project demonstrates that we can live fulfilling lives wherever we are in the universe. The designers of the building also say that the House of Mars represents everyone’s interest and will create an idea of how people can exist on Mars.
