Mark Zuckerberg unveiled humanoid VR avatars in an interview on Metaverse. Zuckerberg stated that it may be possible to interact with deceased people thanks to Meta’s new highly realistic avatars.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed the future possibilities of virtual reality and the Metaverse in a recent interview with podcaster Lex Fridman.

The interview also served as a teaser for Meta’s new Codec avatars, which use scanning technology to create 3D models of the user’s face.

“I would love to talk to my loved ones who are no longer here,” Fridman told Zuckerbeg during the interview on Metaverse. “So when you look into the future, is that possibility something you think about?”

Zuckerberg acknowledged it was a complex idea, but said there was “probably a trade-off” for the concept of creating a virtual version of a deceased person using VR and AI technology.

“If someone has lost a loved one and is grieving, there may be ways that being able to interact or relive certain memories can be helpful.”

He also added that this was a dimension where it could become “unhealthy” and said, “I am not an expert on this subject, so I think we need to examine and understand this issue in more detail.” said.

Meanwhile, a caricatured image of Zuckerberg’s first metaverse avatar posted on social media outside a virtual version of the Eiffel Tower became the target of internet memes.
