Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), has confirmed the long-discussed new NFT feature. In a recent interview, the social media giant’s executive announced that Instagram plans to adopt NFTs in the short term.

Speaking at the SXSW conference held in the USA, Mark Zuckerberg avoided giving too many details about Instagram and NFT during his statement. We only know that the immutable token integration for Instagram is currently in development, but the Instagram team is focused on solving some technical issues.

Instagram pushes for NFT feature

In January of this year, Meta’s plans for NFTs began to leak. According to the Financial Times report, both Facebook and Instagram will become a place where users can create and sell their NFT digital assets. Zuckerberg finally detailed Instagram’s next goal with NFTs:

“We’re working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the short term. I’m not ready to explain exactly what’s going to happen, but you’ll be able to see some of your NFTs on Instagram in the next few months.”

Instagram President Adam Mosseri previously referred to the future of NFTs on the platform. In December 2021, the executive assured that the company was doing research to help NFTs reach a wide audience. “We are actively researching how to make NFTs accessible to a wider audience,” Mosseri said.

In addition, Instagram held “Creator Week” in the summer of 2021. The social media company aroused curiosity by sponsoring NFT artists who will take part in the conference. Additionally, Zuckerberg made futuristic predictions during the event, such as “The clothes you wear in the Metaverse can be printed as NFTs and you can wear them between different venues”.

But now Meta seems to have made up its mind about NFT and the crypto world. The next step will be to adapt the new NFT community to a giant platform like Instagram.
