English Premier League club Manchester City has started construction of the world’s first football stadium in the metaverse with the help of Sony’s VR experts.
City has entered into a three-year partnership with Sony. Sony officials visited the Etihad Stadium to digitally map the stadium.
Etihad Stadium will be transformed into a Manchester City center in the metaverse thanks to image analysis and skeleton tracking technology developed by Hawk-Eye, a Sony subsidiary.
The developers of the project envision a world where the Etihad stadium can be filled multiple times and allow fans who will never be able to go to Manchester to watch the matches live from the comfort of their home.
If the Metaverse continues to grow like this, there could be a revolution in the way television rights are distributed. Currently, Premier League clubs sell their match broadcasts to broadcasters in bundles. However, sales can be made directly from clubs to fans in the future.
