READING NOW Malfunction in Hubble Space Telescope! What’s the latest situation?

For years, humanity has wondered about space and the depths of space. Many technologies and methods have been developed within this scope. Perhaps one of the most impressive of these technologies is the Hubble Space Telescope. We can say that the Hubble Telescope in space is a real science center that sends live data so that humanity can move forward. But there is a malfunction in the telescope. Here is the Hubble Telescope malfunction and its details…

Hubble Telescope put itself into safe mode! So, What is the problem?

The Hubble Space Telescope, which is in space and provides a constant flow of data for us, is among the most important technological developments in human history. The telescope, which was launched into space as part of the STS-31 Mission in 1990, is named after American astronomer Edwin Hubble.

Hubble, which is the first telescope in NASA’s Great Observatories program, serves as a source for many scientific articles and publications. However, scientific research in which Hubble plays a leading role has been paused for the past few days. The Hubble telescope is currently in safe mode due to a hardware technical malfunction and is waiting for the error to be resolved.

In the statement made by NASA, it is stated that the error first appeared on November 19. You can read our first news about the malfunction in the Hubble telescope by clicking here. During the intervening period, the malfunction of the telescope was fixed once, but even after a short time, the telescope malfunctioned again.

In the statements made on the subject, it was stated that the error was due to two of the 3 gyroscopes of the Hubble Space Telescope observatory not working properly and therefore the measurement results did not confirm each other. Thanks to its software, the telescope switches to safe mode when it detects inconsistencies in the measurement results.

The question here is what will happen to the telescope? Because we mentioned in our news last week that efforts were being made to find a solution. Considering that these errors may occur due to deformation in the gyroscopes, the telescope may need a close repair. This means NASA organizes a separate mission. However, when we consider that 6 gyroscopes were installed on the telescope in 2009, we can go to the logic of “it has a backup”.

In addition, we can state that NASA is considering the transition to a single gyroscope operating system for the Hubble Space Telescope. In the coming days, we will have clearer information about the planned course of the telescope in the coming periods.
