What’s new in macOS 14 ❓
First of all, it should be said: macOS 14 does not come with revolutionary innovations. The arrangements made and the innovations introduced mostly serve the Apple ecosystem.
The main features are the new animated screensavers that can be used as wallpaper as well as widget support on the desktop. Building on Apple’s release strategy from previous years, it’s expected to be available in developer beta in the coming weeks as a public beta. Its general availability is expected towards the end of this year.
Widgets will now appear on your desktop instead of desktop shortcuts and browsable widgets and notifications. You can even run iPhone widgets on Mac without installing the app on your Mac, or even use apps like Pixelmator Pro on your macOS desktop. Widgets are also designed to fade into the background when opening a new window, which increases focus.
macOS Sonoma also gets serious about gaming, harnessing the power of Apple silicon. The new Game Mode gives your game the highest priority over your CPU and GPU for better frame rates, and significantly reduces lag on inputs from AirPods and Xbox and PlayStation controllers. To demonstrate its desire for gaming on the Mac, Apple has also announced that Death Stranding Director’s Cut is coming to macOS, along with the announcement of Hideo Kojima.
When will macOS 14 be released 📅
As expected, Apple announced macOS 14 as part of WWDC and has released a beta version to developers as of now. Access to macOS 14 Beta requires a registered developer. The public beta will be released in about a month. For the public macOS 14 Beta, it is also necessary to join Apple’s Beta Program.
Although the exact date is not clear, we can say that the last stable version of macOS 14 will be available in the fall. Apple had released new versions in previous versions, usually in October. We can expect a similar date.
