Thinner, lighter MacBooks are coming
All current MacBooks, including the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, have an LCD panel with mini-LED backlighting and ProMotion. Unlike mini-LED LCDs, OLED displays have self-leveling pixels and do not require backlighting; which means better contrast ratio and longer battery life.
New iPad Pros with OLED screens are coming
Kuo did not specify whether the MacBook with OLED display will be a Pro or Air model. However, DSCC CEO Ross Young, who has over 25 years of experience in the display industry, said last month that Apple will release the 13-inch MacBook Air model with OLED display in 2024, followed by the new 11.1-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro with OLED displays.
Switching to micro-LED technology in Apple Watches
It looks like it will take a long time for Apple to make the switch to OLED display for Macs and iPads. Meanwhile, the new Apple Watch Ultra is said to have a micro-LED display. Micro-LED technology will offer much higher brightness and better contrast ratio compared to current Apple Watch models with OLED screens.
