Microsoft announced its new ARM-based computer powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon computing platform. The computer named Project Volterra appeals to Windows developers more than end users. It comes with a Windows development kit that will enable developers to build Arm powered applications.

New ARM-based Windows computer: Project Volterra

This year, we can clearly see that Microsoft places more emphasis on Windows compared to its other products. At the Build conference held in the past hours, the technology giant introduced its products that aim to strengthen the Windows on Arm platform.

Recently, Microsoft has grown its Windows on Arm (WoA) platform considerably, and thanks to Arm-based computers, it can run almost all Windows applications on a single computer. Built with the Qualcomm Snapdragon computing platform, the new Project Volterra is similar in design to the Mac mini. However, its intended use is quite different.

Although Project Volterra has been officially announced; Important information such as features, price and release date were not shared. The launch video shared by Microsoft for Project Volterra showed that the mini computer has a standard NVMe SSD.

Microsoft said it is collaborating with Qualcomm for its new ARM-based computer and will come with a “flagship processor”. Although it is Microsoft’s first “desktop” computer, it seems that it will be difficult for us to see it on the shelves because it does not appeal to the end user.

Qualcomm also announced at the Build conference the new Qualcomm Neural Processing kit that will enable Windows developers to expand their artificial intelligence scenarios. The company even stated that the new computer will support best-in-class artificial intelligence computing capacity.

Microsoft received a lot of criticism in the early days of the Windows on Arm platform. Because the models powered by Intel processors were insufficient in terms of battery. Also, there wasn’t much reason to run Windows on ARM. Next-generation artificial intelligence and neural processing seem to change that.
