Apple introduced the highly anticipated M4 Pro and M4 Max processors at its recent event. We can say that the most striking among these was undoubtedly the M4 Max. Now Apple’s new M4 Max chip has broken a record in the Geekbench 6 benchmark database. So what does the flagship platform offer? Here are the early results…

22% faster than M3 Max

For those who missed it, Apple hasn’t changed the maximum core configurations of the M4 Max, which means both the M4 Max and M3 Max have 12 performance and 4 efficiency cores for their top-end versions. Additionally, during the launch, Apple stated that M4 Max offers up to 2.2 times higher performance than M1 Max and 2.5 times higher performance than Intel Core Ultra 7 258V.

When we look at the leaked Geekbench table, we see that the M4 Max has 4,060 points in single-core and 26,675 points in multi-core. This is a record in Geekbench 6’s single-core ranking. For comparison, let’s note that the M3 Max reaches scores between 3,189 and 3,200 in a single core. The M4 Pro scores 3,546 and 21,866 points respectively in similar tests.

What’s interesting is that in the leaked list, we see that the M4 Max runs at a clock speed of 4.5 GHz. Assuming this is true, either Apple has increased the clock speed on the Max variant (and possibly the Pro variant as well) or we’re looking at increased clock speeds. We should also point out that a similar score was achieved with the M4-based iPad Pro. However, this was recorded with the help of liquid nitrogen.
