Fortnite, which we now forget what its original characters looked like due to its collaborations, has already started to give some signs for a new collaboration. The game, which has been collaborating with the world of cinema and television so far, seems to work with a series/film series again.
In the current season of Fortnite, fans of the game and the Lord of the Rings series have discovered that there is a Helm’s Deep stronghold within the Fortnite map. Although this small diaroma consists of sand and stones, it was planned to be Helmetdibi. This means that their next collaboration will be with the Lord of the Rings series.
Lord of the Rings, but which one?
Fortnite’s collaboration with Lord of the Rings isn’t a random thing, of course. On September 2, Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series, Rings of Power, will be released in theaters. This collaboration is also likely to increase interest in the Lord of the Rings universe.
Two different questions arise here. The first of these is the question of which characters’ costumes we will see in Fortnite. Since the series and the movies take place in very distant times, there are not many characters who can take part in both productions, except for Sauron and a few elves. In terms of character awareness, the characters we see in the Lord of the Rings movies such as Aragorn, Gandalf and Legolas will be much more popular than the characters such as Miriel, Gastrodon, Earien in the series, which seems to have failed to arouse enough interest, although it is discussed. (Let’s just make the case here: Gastrodon is a Pokemon, unrelated to the show, but you probably didn’t realize it.)
Of course, a Sauron outfit will be in the game. On the other hand, it is unlikely that we will see dwarfs or hobbits in the game, because these characters have different sizes. FPS games have hitboxes that describe the physical presence of characters and allow them to take damage when hit in this area. These different sized races will have different hitboxes. This can take a lot of effort to balance the game.
Another point is the copyrights to the Lord of the Rings universe and Tolkien works. Although Amazon owns the copyrights for the Lord of the Rings series, Embracer Group owns the video games rights to the work. As you know, Fortnite is a video game. In this case, it is also a question of how the partnership will work.
