Today’s high-end smartphone cameras still rely heavily on AI technology for some telephoto shots. LG, on the other hand, seems ready to change this situation with its new optical zoom camera technology.
LG will take an important step in zooming with new camera technology
Although the South Korean company will officially introduce it at CES 2023 in early January, it shared the first clues about its new technology. The new technology introduced by LG Innotek will pave the way for improved image quality for distant shots.
The new technology, which will offer higher image quality for distant objects with its advanced optical zoom feature, also stands out with its compact dimensions. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the new camera technology will offer smartphone manufacturers the opportunity to use a larger battery and even a larger image sensor.
On the other hand, thanks to the smaller dimensions, we can say goodbye to the camera bumps that we have seen on many smartphones recently. In this way, we can say hello to smoother designs by getting rid of the protrusions on the back of the phones.
It offers low-quality digital zoom along with limited optical zoom on most current smartphones. In addition, separate camera modules are used for each of these special shots. On the other hand, LG’s new camera module promises a high-quality optical zoom between 4x and 9x.
LG says it has developed this technology by integrating the telescopic camera functions found in DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The South Korean company has started working with Qualcomm to optimize the new camera technology with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors. Considering that Apple is also a customer of LG, we can see this camera technology in iPhone 15 models.
Sony, which is LG’s biggest competitor in this regard, has started to offer similar technology in the Xperia 1 IV model in the 3.5x and 5.2x zoom range. So what do you think of LG’s new technology and protruding camera islands? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
