Lenovo’s new flagship gaming laptop Legion 9i comes with liquid cooling inside the case. We’ve seen liquid cooling on the laptop a few times externally, but this is the first time we’ve seen liquid cooling internally. Lenovo Legion 9i is not the first model to use internal liquid cooling, this cooling is used to restrain the high horsepower inside.
The world’s first liquid-cooled laptop
Lenovo Legion 9i naturally comes to the fore with its liquid cooling and this is emphasized by the company. With its 16-inch form factor, Legion 9i still has a slim profile despite its powerful configurations. The system is only 22.7 mm thick and weighs 2.56 kg.
Legion 9i comes with an Intel Core i9-13980HX and an RTX 4090 Laptop graphics card with a maximum TDP of 230W. On the other hand, the liquid cooling system designed together with Cooler Master does not cover all these parts; Specifically it works on the VRAM of the GPU. In addition, even this way it does not work all the time, it only works when the GPU reaches 84 degrees Celsius.
This all works quite differently from other liquid cooling solutions we’ve seen before, which involve attaching an external tank to the laptop. Lenovo’s cooling also includes three fans on top of the most heat-generating parts. Lenovo also says that the motherboard is inverted to allow more airflow. This explains why the large grids, keyboard and touchpad appear lower. On the lighting side, in addition to the keyboard, the entire base of the product has an RGB ring. However, the thing that draws the most attention is the cover. Lenovo says it uses “forged carbon” here, probably to lighten the product. According to Lenovo, it won’t look exactly the same on the Legion 9i’s due to the way the forged carbon paper is made. We can say that the players will have a unique style. Another important detail of Lenovo Legion 9i is its 16-inch 3,200 x 2,000 Mini LED display with a variable refresh rate of 165 Hz. Lenovo also says that the display is “certified” for G-Sync. In addition, the device offers up to 64GB of memory and 2TB of storage. In return for all these components, Lenovo demands $ 4,399. Lenovo Legion 9i will take its place on the shelves in October.
