One of the remarkable announcements in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 was Lenovo’s new concept laptop named ThinkBook Flip. While the company continues to integrate innovative screen technologies into business and productivity -oriented laptop models, the Flip model gives a different dimension to the vertical screen experience.
There are many modes
The most remarkable feature of the ThinkBook Flip is that it can be used in different modes thanks to its flexible OLED screen. The device can work in a traditional 13.1 -inch laptop form, become a 12.9 -inch tablet when it is completely folded, or offer a huge 18.1 -inch vertical display when the screen is brought upright.
Lenovo preferred the same OLED panel used in the Thinkbook Plus Gen 6 model on this device. However, in Flip, this panel folds backwards in an integrated way into the home screen. This design helps to decrease the cost by eliminating the use of mechanical engines, while preventing the unused parts of the screen from remaining inside. One of the biggest advantages of Flip is that the back side of the screen can be actively used. In this way, it is possible to share content without the need for an external monitor or projector using the rear of the screen as a second screen during a presentation. However, the sign of the device is fully opened and the 18.1 -inch 2000 x 2664 pixel resolution OLED panel serves the user. Thanks to the vertical screen, it was used to coding, view long documents or review web pages.
A concept candidate to be a product
Another remarkable feature of Flip is the Smart Forcepad touching area that replaces the traditional touchpad. This innovative Trackpad offers three different touch layers with LED illumination. Users can use this field as a digital keypad, add quick access functions such as taking screenshots or closing the microphone, or set it as a special application launcher. Samuel Shang, a research team of Lenovo, says that the company’s ideal is the idea of putting a smartphone screen instead of Touchpad, but they have developed a more suitable solution for now, as it will increase costs.
On the hardware side, Lenovo predicts that Flip will be equipped with strong components if it is released. The device is expected to come with Intel Ultra 7 processor, 32GB LPDDR5X RAM, PCIe SSD storage, Thunderbolt 4 port points and fingerprint reader. So ThinkBook Flip actually has everything to be a product, even though it is only a concept for now.
