Benchmark results for Apple’s M2 Ultra chip have been published in Geekbench 6, and there seem to be notable improvements in CPU performance. These scores confirm Apple’s claim of up to 20% faster performance compared to the previous M1 Ultra chip, proving that the M2 Ultra is the fastest chip Apple has ever released.
Initial results show the Mac Studio equipped with the M2 Ultra chip, which delivers single-core and multi-core scores of around 2,800 and 21,700, respectively. This performance sets a new standard for Apple’s desktop computing capabilities.
In addition, Geekbench scores show that an extraordinary level has been exceeded for the upcoming Mac Pro models. Mac Pro powered by M2 Ultra is expected to deliver overall CPU performance about twice as fast as the fastest Intel-based Mac Pro with a 28-core Xeon W processor.
During its WWDC 2023 keynote, Apple announced that the new Mac Pro will be up to 3x faster than the Intel-based model in certain “real-world professional workflows such as video transcoding and 3D simulation.” New benchmark scores now confirm this claim.
“The M2 Ultra consists of 134 billion transistors, 20 billion more than the M1 Ultra,” Apple said in its keynote. The unified memory architecture supports a breakthrough memory capacity of up to 192GB, with 800GB/s memory bandwidth, 50 percent more than the M1 Ultra and twice the M2 Max.”
“The M2 Ultra has a more powerful CPU that is 20 percent faster than the M1 Ultra, a larger GPU that is up to 30 percent faster, and a Neural Engine that is up to 40 percent faster. ”
