Apple’s next flagship phones, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, will feature some major design changes, according to recently leaked schematics. Diagrams shared on Twitter show detailed dimensions and outlines of the phone, which is thought to be the iPhone 15 Pro.
The most obvious change in the schematics is the replacement of the iconic Lightning with a USB-C port at the bottom. This is in line with rumors that Apple will switch to USB-C in the iPhone 15 series to comply with new European Union regulations.
In case you missed it, the European Union has enacted new rules that require all smartphones sold to have user-replaceable batteries by 2027. The new rules are the product of a comprehensive effort to reduce electronic waste and promote repairability.
In addition, the schematics show that the left-hand button layout has been revised and a new round “action” button could replace the mute switch. The volume buttons are in their usual places. It has been said before that the Action button will do more work on the device than turning off the device. For example, taking over the role of the volume button in the Camera app.
The overall dimensions of the iPhone 15 Pro seem slightly larger than the iPhone 14 Pro. According to the leak, it’s 8.2mm thick, versus 7.9mm in the current model.
Other details from the schematics include a slightly wider but less tall camera array compared to the iPhone 14 Pro.
The wide, ultra-wide and telephoto camera lenses we know remain the same. The diagrams show smoother, rounded edges and thinner bezels around the screen.
There’s no proof that the leaked schematics are accurate, but they certainly match up with previous rumors about the iPhone 15 Pro.
