There have been many important developments in the field of cyber security in the past few days. It turned out that the tools developed by the cyber security company Corellium are used in government-sourced spyware and pirated software activities in Israel, Russia and the United Arab Emirates. In addition to these, it has been determined that Corellium has a relationship with the Chinese government.

A 507-page document that Apple prepared for use in its 2019 lawsuit against Corellium showed the company had ties to companies with a track record of selling vehicles to countries with oppressive regimes and weak human rights. Apple’s leaked document shows that Correllium offered NSO Group a trial of its product in 2019 and even gave a quote.

worrying developments

For years, Corellium has portrayed itself as a crucial defender against software bugs on Android and iOS. But the leaked document shows that Corellium is working with several companies that exploit bugs and vulnerabilities to hack mobile phones, rather than helping Google and Apple patch vulnerabilities.

It may be hard to believe that Corellium’s reputation has ties to the companies in question. However, the leaked document clearly shows that the company is working with several companies that take advantage of software vulnerabilities and bugs to hack mobile phones. The documents also reveal email traffic with Corellium staff and potential customers, including DarkMatter and the NSO Group.

It reportedly sold its Corellium software to government-based surveillance company Paragon in 2019. The company also licensed its software to Pwnzen Infotech, whose founders are part of a prominent Chinese group of elite iOS and iPhone hackers. There’s more, it’s not over yet, one of Corellium’s customers turned out to be Russian iPhone hacker company Elcomsoft.

Corellium did not respond about the content of the document; instead, he shared a draft blog post in which he said the company had offered trials to NSO Group and DarkMatter, but denied they were clients. Therefore, it is still a mystery whether they have done any business with these companies and whether they have cut ties with these companies.
