Improvements on satellite launch systems continue to increase day by day. A company that wanted to eliminate some of the disadvantages of traditionally launching satellites via a rocket announced that they were developing a different launch system. The new system aims to drastically reduce the cost and carbon footprint of small satellite launches.
Launching every hour
Green Launch company, with the 16.5 meter long launch tube they developed, has succeeded in throwing a load into the stratosphere at a speed exceeding Mach 3. The system uses hydrogen, helium and oxygen as the launch force.
In a post by the company: “The record for a projectile launched with a hydrogen propellant is 11.2 km/s (Mach 32.7). We plan to limit it to statements were included. The company also predicts that acceleration forces will peak around 30,000 Gs.
Green Launch says the cost will be one-tenth less than a launch using a rocket. The launch also reduces risks compared to the rocket system.
The hydrogen cannon will be able to be fired every 60-90 minutes, and the launched satellites and materials will reach orbit within 10 minutes, according to the company.
NASA to test SpinLaunch’s satellite launch system
Green Launch says that if the upcoming launch tests are successful, it first aims to use its system to send atmospheric sampling devices into orbit to collect data for climate scientists.
