Last year, the record was broken in global renewable power capacity
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has published the “Renewable Capacity Statistics 2025” report. According to the report, the record was broken last year by adding 585 GW renewable energy capacity. Renewable energy sources made up 92.5 %of the total capacity added last year.

With 452 GW, solar energy took place at the summit

Solar energy has achieved a lion’s share with a capacity of 452 GW in renewable energy sources. 113 GW new capacity added wind energy followed it. The annual increase rate in these two energy species was 15.1 %and in 2024, 96.6 %of global renewable energy growth.

When we look at the regions, we see that the Asian continent is leading 421 GW with a new capacity. China, on the other hand, pioneered global growth by meeting about 64 %of the new renewable energy capacity alone. Asia was followed by Europe with 70 GW and North America with 46 GW.

At the end of 2024, the total renewable energy capacity reached 4.4 TW, and 46 %of the global electrical installed power capacity. Although a record year in terms of renewable energy is one year, Irena stressed that the increase in renewable energy capacity by 2030 is behind its goal. The Agency says that 16.6 %growth should be recorded every year to reach a capacity of 11.2 Two for 2030.
