As every year, the new iPhone series will take its first step to the market in September this year. While the iPhone 15 family is shaped in the light of various leaks, the latest information focuses on the iPhone 15 Pro Max model. New information has been shared for the periscope camera lens, which is said to be only in this model.

iPhone 15 Pro Max’s periscope camera is entrusted to Largan

According to the latest information shared by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the periscope camera lens that will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be supplied only by Largan. Largan is one of the leading companies in the world in terms of camera lens production. Although rumors that the iPhone will get a periscope lens go back years, the latest information says that this camera will only be on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

In a periscope system, light entering the telephoto lens is reflected towards the camera’s image sensor by an angled mirror. Thanks to the change in the direction of the light’s movement, the telephoto setup allows for more lossless zooming without blur. We have been seeing this system in the top models of the Android community for a while.

Largan won’t win from lenses

According to Kuo, the average selling price of periscope camera lenses that Largan ships is around $4 (including prisms), which is well below the average market price of $4.5 to $5 or more. “The $4 price means Largan cannot profit from a periscope camera lens,” Kuo says.

Going forward, Kuo believes that both iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024 will use the same or similar periscope lens as used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Apple will continue its trend of separating the standard and Pro models by dedicating some high-end hardware features to the expensive models.
