We know that Qualcomm has been working on a new mobile processor for a while. The resulting claims showed that it would rival the Apple Silicon-based M series. New leaks have revealed that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 processor, codenamed “Hamoa”, performs better than the Apple M2.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 performance tests revealed
It was stated that Qualcomm has stepped up the gear for Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. This processor, which will use the Orion cores of the company called Nuvia, will power laptops. According to new reports, the Orion cores in Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 managed to overtake the M2 in performance and power efficiency.
The report stated that it was more successful than the M2 Silicon chip that powers MacBooks and iPads. However, it was not specified which configuration of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 was tested. Qualcomm is expected to offer models ranging from 8 to 12 cores.
The 12-core version with 8 high-performance + 4 efficient cores is thought to surpass the Apple M2. However, performance tests may not be sufficient for Qualcomm. New processors are expected to be released later than Apple M3, and this may cause Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 to remain in the background.
Qualcomm will introduce the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. In addition to this model, we can also see new mobile processors with Orion cores. This could give Qualcomm an advantage ahead of the Apple M3.
It is unclear when the new mobile processor will be released. But it will be interesting to see whether it can really compete with Arm and Apple’s M series processors.
