Kuo revealed earlier this year that the Apple A16 Bionic chip will be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models, while other iPhone 14 models will come with last year’s A15 Bionic chip. Now he claims that entry- and mid-range iPhones won’t be powered by the latest chip.
iPhone 14 with A15 chip
Apple is expected to announce four new iPhone models this year: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max (the model with a larger 6.7-inch display to replace the iPhone Mini), iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. While the normal iPhone 14 models will keep the iPhone 13 design with minor hardware innovations, the iPhone 14 Pro series will draw attention with its new screen design and important camera improvements.
It won’t be the first time that major improvements, such as a new design for Apple’s more expensive iPhone models, will occur. In 2017, the iPhone X was introduced with a brand new design, Face ID and other new technologies, while the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were slightly better versions of the iPhone 7. But both the iPhone 8 and iPhone X were powered by the same A11 Bionic chip. Apple followed this strategy with the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and other models in the following years. Now things seem to change.
Apart from Kuo, several independent sources have also confirmed that only two of the four iPhone 14 models will come with the new and faster processor. The architecture will be the same as found in the iPhone 13 processors, although some analysts believe that Apple will use 6GB of RAM and a more powerful version of the A15 chip instead of 4GB of RAM in its new phones.
iPhone 14 Pro sales may be higher
It is not difficult to predict that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be more popular. According to Kuo, if the same processor was used in all iPhone 14 models, sales would be around 40% – 50%, but now it will go up to 60%. Keeping the new processor for the more expensive iPhone models will certainly lead to more people buying these models over the cheaper ones, which will increase the average iPhone price. This means that Apple’s profits from iPhone sales will increase even more.
When is the iPhone 14 coming out?
If all goes as planned, Apple will likely introduce the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models in September.
