Kripton technology has come true! New period in data storage
A step that pushes the limits of traditional data storage technologies was taken by scientists from the University of Chicago. Researchers have found a way to store digital data by terabytes in a millimeter -sized crystal structures. This innovative method brings the data storage system consisting of classic 1 and 0s using the atomic defects in the crystals to a new dimension.

Beauty came out of the flaws

Existing storage systems have difficulty developing smaller and more dense memory solutions due to the physical limits of transistor -based structures. However, researchers have found a way to overcome these limitations by using the missing atoms in the internal structure of the crystals as data storage unit.

Researchers who have developed a new approach that combines solid state physics and radiation dosimeter practices added Praseodim ions to the itrium oxide crystals to develop this method. When the crystal is stimulated with an ultraviolet laser, these ions release electrons and are stuck in the natural defects in the crystal. Thus, the charging conditions can be changed and 1s and 0s can be created just as in traditional digital memory.

This process, unlike classic data storage systems, provides higher data density on much smaller scales. Assistant Assistant Assistant Tian Zhong, who manages the research, says that this technology serves as a bridge among optical and quantum -based data storage systems. Crystal defects have previously been investigated as possible cubits for quantum computers. However, this study aims to revolutionize data storage technology by using the same structures for classical data storage. Researchers believe that this invention can redefine data storage limits and pave the way for ultra -compact, high capacity storage solutions in classical information process.

Crypton technology

Those who are familiar with Superman’s films and comic books have understood their relationship with the imaginary superhero of the crystals. Superman’s house, known as Fortress of Solitide, was built with white crystals produced with crypton technology. Superman was able to store information and holographic messages through these crystals. Sometimes the holographic appearance of his father (Jor-El) would appear to guide him.

Today, scientists’ use of crystals as a data storage unit seems to be the attempt to imitate Superman’s crypton technology in the real world.
