Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken is preparing a $10 million aid package to support Ukrainians due to the ongoing Russian occupation.
Kraken customers who created an account from Ukraine before March 9, 2022 will be eligible to receive $1000 in Bitcoin, which can be withdrawn immediately from the exchange. In addition, users who want to convert their Bitcoins to US dollars will not be charged a transaction fee for now.
Kraken CEO Jesse Powell said:
“We look forward to continuing to provide critical financial services to our customers in both Ukraine and Russia at a time of need.
Cryptocurrencies remain an important humanitarian tool, especially at a time when many around the world can no longer trust traditional banks”
Kraken plus the total transaction paid by Russia-based customers in the first half of 2022 plans to transfer an amount equivalent to their wages to the aid package.
