Meta is officially entering the AI chatbot wars, starting with its own assistant and a set of AI characters that it will release on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. If you have used ChatGPT even once, you are completely familiar with how it works because the basic logic is the same. Meta sees it as a general-purpose assistant for everything from planning a trip with friends in a group chat to answering questions you’d normally ask a search engine. Meta announced a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing to provide real-time web results, which sets Meta AI apart from many other free AIs that lack up-to-date information.

MetaAI

Another important feature of Meta AI is that it can produce images like Midjourney or DALL-E. Interesting high-resolution photos were produced in the demo shown at the Meta Connect event. Like all of Meta’s AI features announced this week, this rendering feature is completely free to use. Meta did not fully explain the power behind this artificial intelligence, but the company has major language models such as Llama 2. A special version of these is probably used.

The differences between Meta AI and Llama 2 are mostly hidden in the responses. Meta AI uses a more chatty and friendly tone. By contrast, most existing artificial intelligence can be robotic or bland.

Dozens of celebrities will be your artificial intelligence personality

Alongside Meta’s AI assistant, the company is also starting to roll out an army of 28 AI characters across its messaging apps. Many of these AI personalities are based on celebrities like Dwyane Wade, Kendall Jenner, MrBeast, Snoop Dogg, and Paris Hilton. Others will be personas for specific use cases. By the way, you won’t be talking directly to Dwyane Wade’s or Kendall Jenner’s artificial intelligence, of course. These will represent a personality and their voices will also be similar. For example, Dwyane Wade as Ironman triathlete Victor will be an AI personality who will motivate you to be your best self.

Meta AI, on the other hand, is not trained on publicly available user data from Instagram and Facebook, at least for now, but this will happen in the future. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that artificial intelligence assistants will begin to be offered in beta as of today and will be released more widely in the coming days.
