The government of Kazakhstan generated $1.5 million in revenue from Bitcoin miners in the first quarter of 2022.
This money earned by Kazakhstan was well below expectations due to the closure of many mining companies across the country.
According to the report published by the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, Bitcoin mining fees were obtained from 12 regions of the country. These fees were provided by AISolutions, Agro Energy and BCD Company.
With the law enacted in the country on January 1, 2022, miners have to pay money to the government as part of their energy consumption. On the 20th day of the last month of each quarter, miners must pay exactly 1 tenge ($0.0024) per kilowatt. As the commission emphasized, this fee is currently being discussed in the parliament.
The report noted that the expected fee could not be obtained due to the power outage of many mining enterprises.
Mining consumes a relatively small portion of total global energy, although most of the industry is located in Kazakhstan. The country accounts for 13.22% of the global hash rate. This rate puts the country in third place in the world.
