The month of July that we left behind witnessed the hottest days of recent times. So much so that in the past month we have witnessed the hottest days on record many times. While the heat was unabated, a statement came from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

According to scientists at NASA’s Goddard Space Research Institute in New York, July 2023 was recorded as the hottest month in history.

Hottest month since records began in 1880

NASA said in a statement that July was the hottest month on record until 1880. It was also among the explanations that it was 0.24 degrees warmer than other July in the records. NASA Director Bill Nelson said: “NASA data confirms what billions of people around the world are feeling. “Temperatures in July 2023 made it the hottest month on record.”

Emphasizing the impact of climate change, the agency says that records have been broken due to human-induced warming, mostly caused by greenhouse gas emissions. NASA also says that the five hottest July months since 1880 have occurred in the last five years.

It should be noted that ocean surface temperatures also reached record levels for four months in a row. This also contributed to the record breaking.

As we said at the beginning, this is not surprising. Over the past month, we’ve seen a lot of scary news around the world, from wildfires to heat-related deaths. Already, investigations showed that we experienced higher temperatures than previous records for 36 days from July 3 to August 7.

Experts also made a general statement about the current year. Accordingly, 2023 is currently in the third place among the warmest years. There’s a 50% chance it will be the warmest year on record, surpassing 2016 and 2020. This is another indication of how worrisome the situation has become.

2024 will be even hotter

In addition to these, NASA also announced its predictions for 2024, showing that worse days await us. The biggest effects of El Nino have yet to be felt, according to the agency. Experts say their greatest impact will be experienced in February or April 2024. So next year will probably be even hotter.
