Joined Google’s effort to bring RCS to iPhone with its own commercial

Samsung released a short ad to support Google's efforts to bring RCS to the iPhone. However, since Apple's addition of RCS to the iPhone depends not only on Google but also on users' wishes, these efforts of the two companies may not be decisive for the iPhone maker.

It looks like Google has found new supporters for its ongoing campaign to bring RCS to the iPhone. The latest commercial demanding RCS to be introduced into the iPhone comes from Samsung, and although it’s only 20 seconds long, it tries very hard to make your heart ache.

There are many opinions about Google’s ongoing RCS push. While some believe Apple shouldn’t give in to Google’s RCS moves, others support Google’s attempts to bring Apple and Android together a little more seamlessly at the point of messaging. However, Samsung’s new RCS ad is a bit confusing.

The ad is pretty simple and only takes 20 seconds. The ad shows a phone interface and a person is texting another person named Juliet. It’s pretty clear where the company wants to go from here, but the ad doesn’t actually say we need RCS on the iPhone. Instead, Samsung’s new ad only mentions green bubbles, the color given to non-iMessage messages arriving on the iPhone, and leaves the rest to the title of the video.

In recent years, Google has been pushing hard to get Apple to adopt RCS on the iPhone, and now that Samsung has joined the campaign, we’ll be seeing more ads like this on billboards, social media posts, and more.

But in the end, it’s not just Apple that Google needs to convince. Right now, Apple says RCS isn’t an important feature iPhone users want, and Chris Smith, who wrote earlier this year that he didn’t care about RCS on the iPhone, seems to agree.

If Google can convince iPhone users that they really need RCS, it could become a more important feature for Apple. But for now, ads like this latest Samsung RCS ad and Google’s own attempts to get Apple’s attention will likely continue to be ignored by the iPhone maker.
