Samsung Electronics collaborates with the world’s most renowned directors to encourage all users to be creative with their Galaxy devices. Within the scope of these collaborations, a content series featuring the films of the world’s best directors is published under the name “Filmed #withGalaxy”.
For the first film of the series, Samsung collaborated with world-famous director Joe Wright, known for the films “Pride and Pride” and “Atonement”. In the musical film Princess & Peppernose, which tells the story of a princess who violates the rules for her own wishes in pursuit of love, puppets and live choreography were used, and all scenes were shot with a Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone. During the production process of Princess & Peppernose, Wright and his team managed to fit the entire image into the frame in every scene, thanks to the 13mm Ultra Wide lens of the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Commenting on the shoot, Wright said: “My parents were the founder and operator of the first theater in England to do purely puppet shows. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to remember my own roots. What surprised me the most during this process was being able to work with the characters and the story. “It was incredibly quick and easy. The camera was always on hand and all we did was capture the frame and record it.”
The cinematographer said: “We’ve never done it before, but this time we opted for the wide lens. When we took a close-up with the lens we use for wide-angle shots, we were able to capture a distinctive, ghostly, hallucinatory look and feel, just like when we used the Super8.”

“Filmed #withGalaxy” will feature many stories from different parts of the world
After Wright’s film, Samsung will continue to feature the stories of popular directors from different parts of the world as part of “Filmed #withGalaxy”. One of them will be Sha Mo, one of the promising talents of China, known for the movies “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and My Huckleberry Friends. Sha Mo used the camera of Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G to shoot his new movie Kids of Paradise, which poetically describes the conflicts between children in a village school. Sha Mo used the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s Director’s Look feature to shoot three different shots in one frame to achieve an intuitive and professional-grade shooting experience.
Sha Mo said: “Working with Samsung, I realized that anyone who wants to express themselves with a story already has the equipment. Thanks to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, I was able to capture angles and movements that I couldn’t get with a larger camera. I almost forgot that I was shooting with the device and new ideas kept coming to me.”
Stephanie Choi, Head of Mobile Communications Marketing at Samsung Electronics, said: “Cinema is one of the most powerful storytelling tools and one of the best ways to connect with audiences emotionally. We want to show that they don’t need it. With just a little creativity and a Galaxy smartphone in their pocket, anyone can do it.”
Princess & Peppernose and Kids of Paradise will debut at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October.
