In a statement made today, he announced the company that will carry astronauts to the Moon on the Artemis V mission. NASA reported that billionaire businessman Jeff Bezos chose the space company Blue Origin for this important mission. It was also stated that the deal has a value of 3.4 billion dollars.
With this decision of NASA, the Moon transport mission in 2029 belonged to Jeff Bezos. It was stated in the agreement that the company will carry 4 crew members. Two of these astronauts will land on the lunar surface and conduct research there. The spacecraft belonging to Blue Origin will also be used during the landing on the lunar surface.
Bezos’ company thus compensated for its defeat against Elon Musk in 2021. Two space giants entered the tender again in 2021. In the space tender, NASA gave the landing vehicle construction task for the Artemis III mission, which is planned to be held in 2025, to SpaceX, the company of Elon Musk.
The deal in 2021 was worth $2.9 billion in total. In addition, NASA announced that the lander to be used in the Artemis III mission will also be used in the Artemis IV mission. In response, Bezos went to court, arguing that such a task should not be given to a single company.
But the court found Bezos wrong. He argued that, thanks to the agreement made, competition between space companies will occur and thus better quality and cheaper products will emerge. With Jeff Bezos assuming Artemis V, it can be considered that he compensated for his defeat against Elon Musk to some extent.
