KoBold Metals, an AI-powered mineral exploration group, is searching under Greenland’s melting ice for rare and precious metals and minerals that could be used to produce electric cars and renewable batteries. Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are among the group of billionaires who support the firm, which hopes to find sources for clean energy under the melting ice in western Greenland.
According to a KoBold spokesperson, a team of 30 geologists, geophysicists and pilots explored Disko Island and the Nuussuaq Peninsula, making these hills and valleys “one of the largest nickel and cobalt deposits on Earth that could potentially power 100 million EVs.” trying to find someone.
Working with Bluejay Mining on the expeditions, KoBold is using AI to find areas where the first holes could be drilled next summer, and takes soil samples as drones and helicopter examine the layers below the surface.
Bo Møller Stensgaard, CEO of Bluejay Mining, said in a conversation with CNN that it is worrying to see the consequences and impacts Greenland is experiencing due to climate change, but that climate change has facilitated exploration and mining work in Greenland in general.
