
8 big Japanese companies merged
The next-generation chips will be produced through Rapidus, a startup made up of eight Japanese companies, including Sony, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Denso, NTT, Kioxia. Each will contribute 6.9 million euros, except for Mitsubishi, which contributed 2 million euros.
Chip fabrication under target 2nm
The goal is to develop and manufacture next-generation semiconductors with transistors below 2 nm, with application in devices such as mobile phones, data centers, telecommunications networks or the hardware of autonomous vehicles.
Mobility in the stock market
The approval of its new strategic plan also affected the movements of companies in the sector on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Semiconductor analytical equipment manufacturer Lasertec rose over 16% in the first half of the session; Sony, 5%; Toyota rose 2%. Softbank group was up 2%, chipmaker Tokyo Electron was up 9.5%.
