The ministry plans to allocate a budget of 32 billion yen (about $225 million) for the new project. The supercomputer will be used in Japan to develop artificial intelligence and support companies engaged in research and development in the field of artificial intelligence. The new supercomputer is expected to help narrow the gap in artificial intelligence between Japanese companies and their Western rivals.
It was noted that the device will be available through cloud platforms. The project will be implemented with the participation of research centers affiliated to the Ministry. In addition, Japanese scientists from the Institute of Natural Sciences (RIKEN) are working with Fujitsu experts to integrate quantum computing into the Fugaku supercomputer, which is expected to become even more advanced by 2025.
