A flying car received the first safety certification issued by Japan, allowing them to commercialize their eVTOL vehicles in 2025. This is the first flying car to reach this stage in Japan and could pave the way for us to see truly flying cars in the years to come.

SkyDrive’s eVTOL electric flying car concept is currently represented by the SD-03, which had a successful manned flight demonstration in August 2020. The SD-03, which has only one seat, is supported by eight propellers in a four-propeller arrangement and can offer a flight time of approximately 10 minutes and a speed of 48 kilometers per hour. During its introduction to the world, a pilot flew around a test area after taking off vertically and landing softly back.

Over the past few years, SkyDrive has applied for a certificate issued by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), confirming the safety of the vehicle. While rigorous tests were carried out that tested the aircraft’s power and flight capabilities, the company also had to submit comprehensive data on the concept and production plans. SkyDrive’s approval was a major milestone for flying vehicles, as MLIT had never previously accepted a flying car for this certification. The company now aims to continue working with the government to develop a safe eVTOL tool.

The SD-03 is currently used for a drone cargo service in Japan, but SkyDrive, which has received its safety certification, hopes to put its vehicles into flying taxi service in 2025. . .
