The new generation Xbox consoles Series X and Series S, introduced by Microsoft in 2020, continue to attract great attention worldwide. However, players are also wondering when the next consoles will be released. New internal conversations that emerged as part of the FTC lawsuit in June also provide new information on this issue.
According to documents first spotted by Axios, Microsoft aims to release new Xbox consoles in 2028. The documents belong to a meeting held in May 2022. Many senior executives attended this meeting, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, CFO Amy Hood and Xbox President Phil Spencer.
Microsoft plans to release multiple consoles in the next generation, just like Xbox Series X/S
At the meeting, in addition to the 2028 plans, signals were also given that more than one console could be released. As it is known, Series S is a weaker and more affordable device, while Series X is a more powerful version that directly rivals PlayStation 5. The managers’ speeches at the meeting also show that this approach will continue.
Of course, it should be said that this information is not definitive. There is a possibility that plans may change. There were seven years between Xbox One and Series X/S. If the new consoles are released in 2028, this period will be further extended to eight years.
The Microsoft and FTC case revealed information on other issues in addition to the new consoles. One of this information showed that PC games could come to the Xbox cloud service. Another one showed that Bethesda’s new game The Elder Scrolls VI will not arrive before 2026 and will be exclusive to Xbox.
