Group chats on WhatsApp are used for many different purposes, from giving ways to stay in touch with distant family members to helping people in clubs and groups around the world easily communicate with each other. While the features like chatting, sending photos, making video calls were great, until now the app lacked the ability to create polls.
However, this seems to be about to change. Whether you’re looking for an easy way to see which restaurant you and your friends should go to, a way to vote on which design is best for your company logo, or a myriad of other collaborative ways, group chats on WhatsApp are likely to gain the long-lost voting option.
There are hints of a simple poll creation interface that can be used to pose a question to a member of a group chat, as spotted by reliable leakers WABetaInfo so far in the iOS version of the WhatsApp app. It’s not entirely clear at this time how the surveys will look or how customizable they will be, but we do know that they will be end-to-end encrypted.
As welcome as the surveys approach, it’s true that rival messaging apps have been offering this service for a while. Of course, this does not detract from the usefulness of the feature in any way. It is certain that it will prove its popularity and we can easily say that it will be a feature that will be used heavily when it is finally available.
While the poll option is currently only visible in the beta version of the WhatsApp for iOS app, it would be surprising if the same option is not available for Android as well. However, it is important to remember that WhatsApp offered the same options to iOS and Android users at different times in the past.
