Italian GP in Formula 1 Completed

The Italian GP, the 16th race of the season in Formula 1, was held on the iconic Monza circuit. This weekend, when Ferrari competed with yellow overalls and yellow-clad vehicles for the 100th anniversary of the track, many teams were honored by the Queen of England II, who lost their lives in the past few days. He also remembered Elizabeth. This came as no surprise as 7 out of 10 Formula 1 teams are based in the UK.

The pre-race saw a rather complicated start to the race, as many drivers were penalized for their engine modifications. While the pilots who started from the back rows rose to the top very quickly, the struggle for the summit did not take place as bitterly as expected. The race finished behind the safety car, although there were no serious accidents.

Verstappen was the winner in Italy.

Max Verstappen, who had previously taken the most 5th place in Monza, started this weekend’s race from 7th as he changed an engine part in his car. Verstappen, who left 3 opponents behind in the first round, also managed to rise to the second place in a very short time. Afterwards, Verstappen took the lead when race leader Leclerc pitted in the virtual safety car, which was given due to Vettel’s car malfunction. The virtual safety car ended while Leclerc was in the pit.

After the Dutch pilot, he continued with a one-stop strategy and managed to maintain the leadership of the race. The Dutch driver, who was leading by 18 seconds in the last six laps, then made his second pit stop after Daniel Ricciardio’s car was stuck on the road with an engine failure and put on unused set of soft tires. Leclerc, George Russell, and Carlos Sainz Jr. followed the same path. Thus, the pilots aimed to be ready for the fight that would occur after the safety car came out.

While Verstappen won the race, Leclerc, Russell, Sainz, Hamilton, Perez, Norris, Gasly, De Vries and Guanyu completed the top 10, respectively.

The race commissioners, on the other hand, decided that the race should be completed under the leadership of the safety car, as it took too much time to get Ricciardo’s car off the road. The fans who filled the stands, especially Ferrari fans, showed their reactions to this situation with boos. The winner of the race, Verstappen, with this result, caught the difference in points that could enable him to declare his championship in the next race, the Singapore GP. Probably until that race, the debate between those who advocate restarting this race with a red flag and those who find the yellow flag correct will continue.
