Sony announced the release date of the highly anticipated PS5 Pro as November 7. However, the development process of this new console started before the launch of PS5.
Hideaki Nishino, co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that PS5 Pro has always been part of the company’s strategies. Nishino stated that the experiences they gained from the previous generation PS4 Pro model played an important role in the development of PS5 Pro.
Sony’s new strategy has been successful
Although PS4 Pro was preferred by only 20% of users, it enabled new users to join the PlayStation ecosystem. Thus, it increased the need for the development of PS5 Pro. Nishino emphasized that this process took five years in total.
Nishino and CEO Hermen Hulst shared the “show but don’t tell” approach the company is taking for future product launches. They also exchanged views on the opportunities and risks brought by collaborations at the senior management level.
