Last October, NASA took virtual meetings to the top by experimenting with a new type of technology for space: “Holoported”. This term, which many people are not familiar with, is actually known as “hologram” or “teleport”.
This technology, which is mostly seen in TV series and movies, is getting closer to being real, step by step. Thanks to this developed technology, the agency, flight surgeon Dr. He managed to teleport Josef Schmid. NASA (US National Aeronautics and Space Administration) recently announced this achievement and shared the background of the event.
Hologram technology could be used in future missions
Dr. Alongside Josef Schmid were AEXA Aerospace CEO Fernando De La Pena Llaca and his team, who helped manufacture the equipment to ‘holoport’. Together, they became the first people with whom astronauts could communicate directly and not board a spaceship.
Microsoft Hololens Kinect camera and Aexa European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Thomas Pesquet’s custom software Using his personal computer, a two-way conversation took place with live footage of Schmid and De La Pena. There was both video and audio communication throughout the conversation. Dr. Schmid made the following statements about this success.
This is a completely new way of human communication over great distances. It is also a new form of human exploration, where our human existence can travel off-planet. Our physical body is not there, but our human being is definitely there.
NASA cites this new form of communication as pioneering wider use on future missions, adding: “We will use it for our private medical conferences, private psychiatric conferences, private family conferences, and VIPs to visit astronauts to the space station. ”
