Using these logs, which record free falls based on accelerometer data, Samsung engineers can determine if a Galaxy Z Flip 3 brought in for repair has fallen from distances greater than 1 meter. In such a case, Samsung has the right not to provide free repair even if the phone is under warranty.
Several stories have surfaced from Galaxy Z Flip 3 users who were given or denied a free repair under warranty. A Galaxy Z Flip 3 user reported that Samsung is willing to repair the phone under warranty, even though engineers determined that the device in question was dropped three times and the last drop occurred 10 hours before the screen cracked. However, the company was a little more tolerant, as the warranty claim was not made after 14 days of purchase. Said user was lucky, but not everyone may be so lucky.
