Microsoft continues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Xbox brand. Microsoft, which has recently implemented a digital museum project exclusive to Xbox and telling almost everything that has happened in 20 years, has been sharing a documentary on its official YouTube channel for a while.
In the 5th episode of the documentary Power On: The Story of Xbox, the details of the meetings where Bill Gates brushed the Xbox department were revealed.
Bill Gates is very angry with the success of the Wii!
Microsoft Xbox, which was first released in November 2001, achieved a very good output for that period, reaching 24 million units in about 5 years. Continuing its success with the Xbox 360 that came later, the company continues its success with the Xbox Series X and Series S on the market, although it is a little old with the decisions it took at the release of Xbox One.
Microsoft, which has organized a series of events in honor of the 20th anniversary of the brand, recently released The Red Ring of Death, the 5th episode of the documentary called Power On: The Story of Xbox, which describes the development of the console in 20 years. Different details were also revealed in the documentary, which basically describes the ‘three red lights of death’ error experienced in the first party distribution of Xbox 360 and touches on how the company has survived these days.
As you may recall, only one year after the release of Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii was involved in the console war and virtually dominated the market. The success of Nintendo Wii, which wiped out both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from the market for a long time, angered Microsoft’s boss at that time. It is said that Bill Gates is particularly resentful of the success of the Nintendo Wii’s unique controller, the Wii Remote.
Phil Spencer, current boss of Xbox, describes those days:
“I remember very well how Bill Gates put a lot of pressure on Xbox executives in those days. ‘How do you bypass motion sensor technology?! How can we not keep up with them?!’ The Nintendo Wii turned the world upside down in those days. ”

After all these years, although Bill Gates stopped taking an active role in the development of consoles, it seems like he forced his team in time. So what do you think about this situation? Do not forget to share your views with us.
