We expect the Samsung Galaxy S23 phones to bring a host of upgrades, from cameras to processors. But it looks like the fingerprint sensor will not see any improvement.
Reliable leaker Ice Universe appears to have obtained a protective glass layer for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, suggesting that the spot where the fingerprint sensor will be placed is the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S22 phones.
We can say that the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S22 works quite well, but as Notebookcheck points out, the sensor on the Galaxy S23 was expected to be bigger and better. However, this is no longer possible. While the Galaxy S22 features the capable Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2, the Galaxy S23 was thought to carry Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max, a sensor that is more accurate, safer and can scan two fingers simultaneously.
Samsung may have decided to stick with the same fingerprint sensor to keep costs down, or perhaps the initial rumor about an upgrade to the fingerprint sensor wasn’t true from the start. However, such an upgrade now seems unlikely.
It could be argued that fingerprint sensors are not the most important component in a smartphone, but considering how often we unlock our phones each day, these additional parts have a significant impact on the user experience.
