When it comes to long update support, the first company that comes to mind is undoubtedly Apple. However, Android smartphone manufacturers are also trying to keep up with Apple’s update policy. After other companies, Xiaomi also takes a step in this regard. Although only one device is discussed for now, it is certain that Xiaomi will implement this policy on its other devices as well.
Xiaomi increases update support
Android phones are getting better in terms of duration of software support. Samsung and OnePlus promise longer software support than other major Android manufacturers. Now Xiaomi is joining this trend and wants its name to be mentioned alongside these two companies. So how did it become clear that Xiaomi made this decision?
Xiaomi Redmi K60 Extreme Edition will receive four operating system updates and five years of security support. The phone was recently announced in China, and the renewed update commitment only applies to this device for now. Other Xiaomi devices receive up to three Android OS updates and five years of security updates.
It is thought that this move will be valid for other new phones. The phone is likely to be released in Europe and other markets like the Xiaomi 13T Pro, but it is not known whether the new update policy will also apply to the global variant. As a result, it is easy for this step to increase the attractiveness of Xiaomi devices.
As for the update frequency, Xiaomi did not provide clear information about the frequency of updates. However, it is worth noting that the company is not exactly the fastest when it comes to rolling out new updates. Meanwhile, Google hasn’t updated its update policy in a long time, offering only three Android version updates and five years of software support for its Pixel phones.
This doesn’t sit well with a company behind Android, and the company knows it, and may soon outperform all Android manufacturers and offer as many updates as Apple. Rumors say that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will not only receive more updates than existing Android phones, but that the new update commitment will be on par with the iPhone, which has been supported for much longer than Android phones.
