AMD’s huge investments in the processor market continue to gradually take over Intel’s dominance in the x86 CPU category. Its share in the x86 market has also grown, especially as companies turn to AMD Epyc processors.

Recent x86 CPU research has shown that AMD has achieved a record 27.7 percent share of the overall x86 market. It also means that it surpasses the previous milestone of 25.6 percent achieved in the last quarter of 2021.

AMD increases x86 CPU market share to 30 percent

AMD hit the x86 CPU market in the first quarter of 2022, according to the latest research from Mercury Research. AMD, which had a record-breaking quarter, currently has a share of 27.7 percent. Although Intel still rules 72.3 percent of the market, it should be noted that AMD has grown since launching the Zen architecture.

AMD’s x86 share in the first three months of 2022 has increased significantly. Reports revealed that it grew by 2.1 points compared to the previous quarter and by 7 points compared to the same period last year. Intel, which experienced a quarter-on-quarter decline of 2.1 points, continues to dominate the market.

Companies like Netflix are increasingly turning to AMD’s Epyc CPUs to meet high-scale user demand on the server side. This orientation enabled AMD to reach an 11.6 percent market share on the server side.

AMD’s share of the laptop world has also increased. Compared to the previous year, it increased by 4.4 points to 22.5 percent. “Scarce low-priced entry-level CPUs and high shipments of mobile processors have resulted in higher mobile CPU prices,” said Mercury Research in a statement.

Although AMD broke records in the x86 CPU market, it could not show the same success on the GPU side. While Nvidia’s graphics cards still dominate the Steam lists, the RDNA 2 refresh has not yet taken effect.
