Sony may be preparing to add a new one to its PlayStation-exclusive series. According to new claims, CD Projekt Red, the developer of popular games such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, can be purchased by Sony.
Sony wants to buy CD Projekt Red
A Twitter account, known for its previous leaks to be true, made a striking claim about Sony. Accordingly, the technology giant wants to buy the studios of CD Projekt Red. This indicates that the Witcher series could become a PlayStation exclusive game.
Rumors first surfaced in March of this year that Sony would buy CDPR. However, for several months, no evidence has been found to support this claim. The latest rumor suggests that Sony is actively investigating this acquisition. In particular, Activision-Blizzard’s shift to Xbox has put pressure on PlayStation.
We know that Microsoft has been trying to buy Activision-Blizzard for a while. Therefore, players think that Sony wants to bring productions such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 to its platform. Even if the purchase is made, we should not ignore the possibility that The Witcher will be on other platforms.
In addition, Bend Studio was allegedly shelved Days Gone 2 as a PlayStation exclusive game. It was reported that the Sony-affiliated studio is working on a different series instead of a survival game.
Until Sony and CDPR make an official statement about the possible acquisition, it should not be ignored that all these are rumors. We also know that Sony’s attempt to buy CD Projekt Red will be scrutinized by competition boards.
