A new rumor says that Apple will equip the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which it will use for iPhones in the future and wants to place completely under the screen, with health features. This next-generation Touch ID sensor is said to be able to measure the user’s heart rate and blood oxygen level, just as Samsung does via health sensors on the back of older Galaxy flagships.
Judging by this claim, Apple will place these health sensors in the Touch ID unit. But still, the possibility of using separate sensors like Samsung should not be overlooked.
Time will tell if this move (if real) will convince Samsung to bring these sensors back to Galaxy smartphones.
Launched in February 2019, the Galaxy S10 was the last Samsung smartphone to have a built-in heart rate and SpO2 sensor. Samsung gave up on these features when it launched the Galaxy Note 10 duo six months later in August. And since then, the Galaxy Note 10 series has been canceled and replaced by “Ultra” Galaxy S flagship models. But the health sensors did not return.
